Mission Statement
The Butler Foundation's mission is to enhance the quality of life by providing programs and services for Seniors and disadvantaged and at-risk Youth.
Who We Are
“Music is the universal language of mankind” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
The Butler Foundation is led by a dedicated team of professionals who desire to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable citizens - seniors and youth. The Butler Foundation's first program brought music therapy to seniors in assisted living and nursing homes. After therapy, the seniors were more social and ate better. Seniors with dementia were calmer. After witnessing the impact music had on the program participants, The Butler Foundation raised money to bring a professional jazz quartet (3 of the musicians were members of Detroit Symphony Orchestra) to a Continuing Care Retirement Community during the Christmas holiday. The music brought joy to many seniors who often have few or no visitors.
After successfully launching music programs in various senior communities, The Butler Foundation expanded their fundraising efforts to provide additional means of comfort and joy to seniors including the donation of custom made stuffed animals, food, and computer technology, along with tickets to local sporting events. These initiatives have improved the quality of life for seniors.
Student programs are launching in the fall of 2013 by providing after school music programs in urban areas. Research has shown that music helps children with language development, reading, and spatial intelligence. With state funding cuts, urban schools often have to cut music and art programs. Providing an after school music program allows under privileged students the opportunity to grow creatively and learn a new skill.
